Storm Surge EMP Survival in a Powerless World edition by JS Donovan Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
- I finished this story. The story line was good and fairly well thought out. I enjoy reading these type of books. I didn't like the heroine's flip flopping mind set. Example She just fought to get her 14 year old children to safety, then sends her son out into a dangerous new world?
I got through most of the editing issues, untill I was at about 86%. (Spoiler) Suddenly our heroine could breastfeed a newborn infant that was not hers? It doesn't quite work that way. This blatant disregard for reality kinda ruined the story for me. I had to find out, and yes, J.S. Donovan is a man. Author, PLEASE read through your work. And confirm details. I find it hard to rate this book. I wish it could be rated on story line (immagination, flow, story building ) (4) alone, and then again on technical details (2). I'll give it the average, a 3. - This book had me hooked since the first paragraph. I enjoy a book with a strong heroine. Max is a tough women whom didn't know she was tough until she faced all the challenges of not having technology to navigate her live. I loved that Max took the initiative to search for family members. It is so hard to write a review without giving away spoilers so, I will just tell you to read this book. You will not be able to put it down. I stayed awake for two nights straight because I lost myself in this story. The plot was great, I thought I had it figured out until the ending. Boy was I wrong about predicting the ending . I look forward to reading more from this author.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review. - In fairness, I quit reading this book, so it might have become the best novel in the universe ... which I highly doubt. I don't generally quit reading books once I start them, but this is one of the few that required me to give up.
The story line makes little sense. For starters, by way of example, the heroine is in the middle of a passionate kiss with her lover who just proposed to her, when she sees something in the distance and immediately knows it’s an EMP (really? She’s consumed by passion …, and she happens to be a veterinarian, not a scientist or military expert).
The logic or editing or both are disastrous. I finally gave up when a character is in a scene next to the star of the book, and that character should not even be in the scene because he’s missing. I don’t want to give the missing character’s name for fear I’d “spoil†the book for others who make the mistake of reading it. - I am very unhappy with all of the spelling errors. I wish it had been proofread. Also, women cannot spontaneously breast feed.
- This is the 2nd book I've read written J.S. Donovan; she has done a great job at writing a good book; I will definitely be reading more of her books.
The story line caught my attention at the very beginning and kept me interested throughout the entire book.
I loved the chemistry between the characters.
I received a free copy of this book via booksprout and I’m voluntarily leaving a review. - Same story different version. Would have been better except sooooo many typos and extra words that you had to re-read the sentences twice a lot of the time to make sure it made sense. Ruined the whole book! Author needs to proofread or go bAck to school to learn how to write!
- I found the premis for this book to be both plausible and, considering today's world, relavent. The read was a little difficult because of inadequate proof reading and editing. There were numerous times that words were missing in sentences or words were repeated out of sequence. From experience I know that spell and grammar check do not catch every issue, a critical eye would have helped. I also felt like the book ended rather abruptly... like the author just ran out of words. All in all, warts and all, I would still recommend this book to those interested in this particular genre.
- I really wanted to like this book, it's a great premise and plot. The writing though just doesn't make it an enjoyable read. Typos and abysmal editing are bad enough but random, incohesive scenes and often laughable descriptives just got to be too much. I kept reading because the storyline could be really good and I was hoping it would get smoother as it went along but it's not happening. . .
