"Though I have not yet had a chance to visit Kripalu, I was excited to have a chance to recreate some of their dishes at home. This book is designed to appeal to a variety of dietary preferences creating something for almost everyone. If you are vegan or vegetarian it is worth noting that this does include some meat dishes as it’s not obvious based on the written descriptions.

It begins with a background of Kripalu, as well as a basic guide to Ayurvedic principles, mindful eating and I really love the section of minimizing food waste which is something I am consciously working on improving on.

The book is divided into the typical breakfast, soups, salads, breads, mains, veggies, sweets and drinks. But there is also a great chapter called ‘From the Buddha Bar’ which is lighter fare one could eat on its own or mix together to make up a Buddha bowl.

This book is really beautiful with some interesting dishes and information but for me there were at least three chapters I did not love - and bear in mind, this is not criticizing the book, this is purely based on my tastes. One was sweet section as it is laden with breads, cookies, cakes and brownies which are just not my preference. I would love to see something lighter even one or two dishes such as a yogurt / parfait / mousse type dish. The breakfast section is also full of pretty dense meals that are not my typical preference for first thing in the morning. It was heavy food that all required cooking which I cannot do weekdays. And though the drinks section definitely has items I would make, I wish there were a few more options such as Ayurvedic drinks.

That said there are a some great dishes, I particularly love the soups section, the breads, mains and Buddha bar section. I had to The vegetable section is bar far my favorite, the kale and apple slaw, fennel with beets and purple rice dishes are standouts

This book is full of stunning photography and easy to prepare recipes. It’s not personally for me as many of the dishes are just too heavy but it could have merit for many others"

The Kripalu Kitchen Nourishing Food for Body and Soul Jeremy Rock Smith David Joachim 9780525620815 Books Reviews

  • I am a fully trained professional cook, retired. Cooking is one of my life-long joys and I have owned three cookbooks for the last 15 years. Now I own four. I have had this one for less than a week and I have bought copies for four close friends and family members.

What makes this book worthy of inclusion in my tiny cookbook library is the fact that it actually introduces useful and novel techniques for making the incredible food at Kripalu. I am fan of visiting Kripalu, it's a short drive from New York City, and I"ll confess that while I want everyone to think I'm going for the healthful rest and yoga, I'm going for the food. The food is incredible.

I am now blessed to have food in the fridge that tastes like I brought it home from the cafeteria on the second floor of Kripalu. You can too. This book is easy to cook from, has a clear vision of what makes a recipe work, and will help you find your way to a diet that works for you. If you were my friend, one would be on the way.

  • I have been fortunate enough to visit Kripalu several times and have had the honor of meeting Jeremy Rock Smith. He is a great chef and I am thrilled that he put out a cookbook. The photography is absolutely beautiful and the recipes are relatively simple, healthy, and full of flavor. I preordered this book months ago and so glad I did! It will make you want to visit Kripalu and enjoy Jeremy’s food while surrounded by natural beauty and lovely people.
  • Having visited Kripalu and thoroughly enjoyed the super-delicious (and oh yeah, healthy) food there, I eagerly anticipated this cookbook. I'm happy to report it is even better than hoped! We have already made the Kripalu house salad dressing (yum) and the kitchari (also yum), and have flagged several more dishes to try soon. I have the added confidence of knowing that these recipes are tried-and-true crowd pleasers. I'm so happy that the Kripalu folks chose to share their wealth of wisdom. I will be giving this beautiful book as a gift as well.
  • This book met all of my expectations and beyond. Best healthy cookbook I own. Written so that someone beginning their journey knows where to start. Having been to Kripalu for a long weekend, I was impressed by the food. I went with an open mind. I wanted to see if really healthy eating was sustainable in my real world household. And it was! I was so excited about receiving this book for some of the recipes, but it is so much more. The index is also broken down by diet for further help. OUTSTANDING!
  • Beautifully illustrated with easy to follow receipes. Looking forward to being more mindful while preparing and serving a healthy meal for family & friends, which includes "Something Sweet" desserts!
  • Beautifully illustrated with easy to follow recipes and helpful explanations relevant to the health benefits for the dishes. Importantly, the ingredients are easy to find too. Looking forward to making more of these yummy dishes.
  • I love Kripalu food and expected this cookbook to have some new recipes in it; however, I was disappointed that there weren't more recipes in the cookbook that are not already online on the Kripalu website. For example, there are so many more recipes like the turkey/chicken burgers that I have has at Kripalu that I expected to find in the new cookbook. The only reason that I didn't give it 5 stars is because it is lacking in some recipes I hoped to see.
